YouTube Music, uses your location data in order to curate music for you accurately. Maybe the company would curate music for when you’re at work. Or, the app could recommend relaxing music for when you get home. This all has to do with the app trying to suggest music to listen to based on where you are.
But, YouTube will stop using your precise location for this
YouTube announced that it’s going to discontinue using your precise location to deliver recommendations. According to the post, the company will stop using your precise location on September 26th. That’s just under a month from now, so that’s good news if you don’t like what YouTube is doing. Not only will the company stop using your precise location, but it will also delete any data derived from your location. However, this doesn’t mean that YouTube won’t use your location at all. Note that the company said that the app will no longer use your precise location. While this is true, the app will continue to use your approximate location to deliver recommendations. That might be a bit disappointing for some people, but it’s a step in the right direction. Instead of giving you recommendations based on the exact building or neighborhood you’re in, the app will recommend music based on your country, for instance. It could recommend the most popular music in your country. Also, the post said that it could recommend music based on your weather. Expect something like a “Rainy Day Music” playlist.
