According to the company, you will be able to transfer everything from your profile photo, chats, including text messages, voice messages, photos, and videos, and settings. You will not be able to transfer your call history, display name, and peer-to-peer payment messages though. However, since the Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp use different cloud platforms for backups, the transfer process isn’t quite straightforward. It’s not like uploading all the information on the cloud from one device and downloading it on the other. You have to locally transfer everything via a cable. Meaning you’ll require a USB-C to Lightning cable to connect your Samsung phone to your iPhone. Before you begin, note that your Samsung phone must be factory new or reset to factory settings. It also must be running Android 10 or higher. You also require Samsung SmartSwitch app version 3.7.22.1 or newer installed on it. Additionally, your old iPhone needs to be running WhatsApp iOS version 2.21.160.17 or higher, while you need WhatsApp Android version 2.21.16.20 or higher on your new Samsung phone. If you meet all these requirements, then you can proceed with transferring your WhatsApp data from your iPhone to your new Samsung smartphone by following the steps below.
How to transfer WhatsApp chats from an iPhone to a Samsung smartphone
When setting up your new (or factory reset) Samsung smartphone, select Smart Switch to transfer data and connect it to your iPhone via the USB-C to Lightning cable. You’ll see a QR code displayed on the new device. Scan it using the iPhone’s camera. If you can’t capture the QR code, you can open WhatsApp on your iPhone and go to Settings » Chats » Move chats to Android to access the transfer page. Now tap ‘Start’ on your iPhone and wait till the process is complete. You can continue setting up your new phone. Once the setup process is complete, open the WhatsApp app and log in with the same number that you used on your old iPhone. Then tap the ‘Import’ button and you’re all set. Your chats and all other information should now be available on your new Android device. Note that your WhatsApp data will be still available on your old iPhone unless you manually delete it. If you’re facing any trouble, you can visit the official help page here. Hopefully, it will not be a very long wait before WhatsApp rolls out support for Android devices from other brands.
