OnePlus has been having a rocky 2022. Its OnePlus 10 Pro and OnePlus 10T were broken on Jerryrig Everything, OxygenOS has basically become Color OS, and people’s overall excitement for the company has cooled. So, we’re all looking forward to what the company is going to launch next. Hopefully it will bring OnePlus out of this slump.
OnePlus could release a phone this year powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2
There’s no word on what the company is going to launch next in the premium phone market. We know that the OnePlus Nord 3 is going to come with a bunch of peripherals. This includes the OnePlus Nord Watch. However, according to Digital Chat Station (via Android Authority), the company’s next flagship could launch with the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. In a post to Weibo, the tipster made a statement that was, well, rather confusing, but it’s a translation. So, if you could navigate your way through that, there are a few details that you can glean. First off, the “sm8550” refers to the model number of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. While this is in the post, you should still take it with a hint of salt. Qualcomm is expected to unveil this new chipset sometime in November, and that gives OnePlus a month and a half to spit out a new phone. Next, while it’s really hard to tell, the post may possibly be talking about camera improvements. The “1-inch outsole” may point to the sensor size for the main camera (because it’s definitely not talking about shoes). Also, the “new image combination of the European and Canadian system” could also have something to do with the camera. The fact is that we’re talking about a phone we don’t know about running a processor we also don’t know about. So, we’re going to need to wait on more information. Since both the phone and processor are set to be revealed before the year is out, there’s not much time to wait for more information.
