Vivaldi’s Reading List is now available on Android
With version 5.1 in February 2022, Vivaldi added a Reading List feature to its desktop browser. It lets you save pages for later access. This feature is now coming to Android as well. Reading List comes in handy when you want to read an article on the web but can’t right now for some reason. Or maybe you found something interesting on the web and want to save that page for later reference. You can access saved pages offline. To add the currently open web page to your Reading List, tap on the Vivaldi icon next to the address bar and select “Reading list” from the menu. Now tap on the “Add Current Page” button and you’re done. You can access your saved pages following the same path. Reading List also maintains a page’s read/unread state. This helps you identify the pages that you have read and remove them. You can remove an item from the Reading List from the three-dot menu next to it. Vivaldi also syncs your Reading List across your devices. So if you’ve saved a web page on mobile, you can access it on the desktop as well. This requires you to sign in with your Vivaldi account though. Otherwise, to use on a single device, this feature doesn’t require any service sign-up.
Translate text on the go
Vivaldi browser offers a built-in translation tool powered by Lingvanex and hosted on the company’s own servers. Vivaldi Translate is “our alternative to Big Tech’s translation tools,” the company boldly says. With version 5.2 for Android, text translation on Vivaldi is all the more easy and fast. Selecting any text on a webpage will bring a pop-up menu with a new “Translate Selection” button. You can tap on it to quickly translate that selected text to any other language. The Translate Panel will also let you change the source language should the browser not automatically detect it. You can also change the target language. This feature makes translating snippets of text easier. While you can always translate the full page with the tap of a button, if you only want to translate a sentence or a few words, Vivaldi will let you do that pretty quickly. You can even browse your translation history. People learning new languages would find this feature quite helpful. Along with these two new features, Vivaldi 5.2 for Android also adds Qwant to its search engine options. It’s a privacy-focused search engine that has its own indexing engine and doesn’t track users. With this addition, Vivaldi now offers nine different options for searching the web. Vivaldi 5.2 for Android is now available on the Google Play Store.
