The Xiaomi 12 Ultra may be the first phone from the company with an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner
The company has been using in-display fingerprint scanners for quite some time now, though those were optical ones. Optical fingerprint scanners are known to be less safe than ultrasonic ones, even though they tend to be faster to unlock, at least those good ones. Well, that was, at least, the case before this generation of ultrasonic fingerprint scanners. Samsung’s Galaxy S21 flagships utilize new ultrasonic fingerprint scanners, and they didn’t perform the best at first. Samsung improved their performance since the phones launched, and they actually perform great now. It seems like Xiaomi noticed that, and following its testing with ultrasonic fingerprint scanners, it may be ready to start including them. If this rumor is to be believed, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will utilize one, but we don’t know about the Xiaomi 12. This information has been shared by a Chinese tipster. That’s not all the information that he shared, though. He also talked about the phone’s periscope camera.
5x optical zoom to be included, along with a larger camera sensor
If the tipster is to be believed, the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will include a 1/1.5” periscope camera with 5x optical zoom support. The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra includes a 48-megapixel 1/2.0” periscope camera with 5x optical zoom, for comparison’s sake. That is pretty much everything that was said. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to become official either in December or January. Chances are it will get announced in December in China, with a global launch following in 2022. That device will almost certainly utilize Qualcomm’s next-gen flagship SoC, the Snapdragon 898, or whatever it ends up being called. It will offer high-end specifications, and it will be large, that’s for sure.
