Android 12 is coming to all three variants of the Galaxy S20
If you’ve held onto your Galaxy S20, then you can rest assured that you’re not being left behind. The international version of the Galaxy S20 phones have already gotten their update, but now it’s coming out to the unlocked version. If you’re using an unlocked version and haven’t gotten the update, you’ll want to check. If you want to check to see if you have your update, go to your settings and find the update section. Usually, the phone will check for updates automatically, but not all the time. Just know that since it’s a major platform update, the file will be rather big and take a while to download.
What will the update include?
The Android 12 update will bring some additional changes to the Galaxy S20 phones. It will bring the January 2022 security patch and necessary bug fixes. It will also bring the latest of One UI 4 and all of its relevant changes to the software.
Should you still get one of these phones?
Oftentimes, you can get a flagship from a couple of years ago and still have a great time. The Galaxy S20 launched back in 2020, and it revamped the design from the S10 line. This phone used the Snapdragon 865 SoC (Exynos 990 for the international version). This series differs from the Galaxy S22 series because both the smaller variants of the S20 phones had 1440p+ displays, whereas the Galaxy S22 and S22+ will have 1080p+ displays. The S20’s displays got up to an impressive 1200 nit brightness and ran at 120Hz. The screens on the Galaxy S20 will more than suffice today. The smaller variants had 8GB of RAM while the Ultra variant had up to 16GB of RAM, and both of those configurations should do you perfectly well today. If you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on a Galaxy S22 Ultra, you can find an S20 Ultra for under $700 on the internet. You’ll still get killer performance, a gorgeous display, and very respectable cameras. This is all wrapped up in a package that should cost less than the base Galaxy S22 phone.
