But following the launch, Breakpoint was met with a rather lukewarm sentiment from players compared to its predecessor. Despite initial reviews being less favorable, the game has managed to find a loyal fanbase. Though you might not know it. Yesterday on the official Ghost Recon Twitter, Ubisoft confirmed that it will no longer be putting out updates for Ghost Recon Breakpoint. In a short letter to the players, it thanked those who continued to support the game over the course of its just over two-year run. Which included more than 11 updates, loads of bug fixes, and numerous collaboration events that included the Terminator, Splinter Cell’s Sam Fisher, and Rainbow Six operators.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint won’t receive further updates but it will stay online
Although the game won’t get any further content updates, it’s not going away completely. Ubisoft will continue to keep the servers online for both Breakpoint and Wildlands. It doesn’t say for how long, just that it will continue to support the servers for both games. So it can only be assumed that it will be for a while. Of course if you only play the game solo, whether the servers are up or not shouldn’t matter too much.
The Ghost Recon franchise will stick around
With Breakpoint now basically in maintenance mode and with how underwhelmed a lot of the player base was, it’s easy to wonder what’s happening to the franchise. Ghost Recon will stick around though. In yesterday’s post, Ubisoft not only thanked fans for continued support. It also stated that player feedback will help to shape the future of the future of the franchise. Ubisoft already has a free-to-play Ghost Recon game in development that it announced back in 2021. Ghost Recon Frontline will be a massive PvP-based shooter. Which suggests it’s going to be a battle royale title like Warzone. If you’re still interested in playing Ghost Recon Breakpoint, it’s available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Stadia, and Luna.
