The ElonJet account is no longer available on Twitter, and this is a cause for concern. Additionally, the main Twitter account of Jack Sweeney seems to have been suspended as well. With the ban of his accounts, Sweeney has taken to other platforms to continue tracking Elon’s private jet. Following the account’s suspension, its owner has made a version of the tracking bot active on Mastodon, like it is on Instagram. The Twitter suspension of his accounts has gotten different reactions from netizens. But, why did the ElonJet Twitter account run by Sweeney get a permanent suspension?
Suspension of the ElonJet Twitter account, a breach of freedom of speech or an issue of safety concerns
Elon Musk has not commented on the suspension of the account responsible for tracking his private jet. Before the suspension of this account, a leaked screenshot of a request from Twitter’s Product and Trust leader hit the internet. The leak shows Ella Irwin requesting that the team at Twitter place heavy filtering on the ElonJet account. The permanent suspension of this account came a few days after the leak became public. Ever since the suspension of the ElonJet account, the internet has been torn with different views of this issue. Some on Twitter support its suspension, saying the account is a threat to Elon’s safety. Others call out Elon Musk for restricting the freedom of speech for users, such as Jack Sweeney. You may also recall that back in January, Elon Musk offered Jack Sweeney $5000 to stop tracking his jet. The college student rejected the offer, requesting $50,000. Months after taking over control of Twitter, Elon Musk made it clear that he won’t be going after the account. But, the free speech advocate Elon Musk also pointed out that the account is a “direct personal safety risk.” Did Elon backtrack on his words by giving the instruction to suspend the account tracking his jet? The answer to this question is still a mystery, as officials at Twitter have not made any comment on this issue.
