We’ve seen a myriad of comments directed toward Elon Musk and Twitter as a whole, but most of them are about the $8/month verification checkmark. In case you didn’t know, Elon Musk revamped the verification checkmark. Instead of having it be a symbol of authenticity for celebrities and influencers, it turned into a Twitter Blue perk. Any person who subscribed to Twitter Blue could have the elusive checkmark. However, what seemed like a good idea at the time to Musk has turned into a disaster.
Tumblr is picking on Twitter by offering two checkmarks
After the massive debacle a couple of years ago, Tumblr is no stranger to being dragged through the mud. However, this does not mean that it can’t laugh at another platform’s expense. Tumblr recently took a shot at Twitter by implementing its own verification system. The platform lets Tumblr users have, not one, but two checkmarks. That’s funny in and of itself, but it doesn’t stop there. Tumblr is offering this for the same price as the latest Twitter Blue subscription which is $7.99- instead of being a monthly payment, it’s a one-time payment, though. The company officially announced this today, and it’s a thing that you can actually buy! You’ll be taken to the Tumblr Mart where you can make the purchase.
Twitter Blue is gone for now
At this point, we’re not quite sure if Twitter can make any comeback from this. It seems that Twitter Blue has actually been disabled for the moment. When trying to sign up for it or even access the perks, people will be met with a disappointing error message. It appears that, because of the backlash, Twitter was forced to take down Twitter Blue and revamp it. We’re going to have to keep an eye on what it’s going to happen with Twitter Blue and Twitter as a whole.
