Platforms like YouTube are great for revisiting older content because it has a watch history function. It even saves videos that play on the video feed. When it comes to TikTok, people gun through their videos at lightning speed, so a watch history feature doesn’t really seem necessary. However, with the addition of 10-minute long videos, that might change.
TikTok could be working on a watch history feature
It’s tough to find that one TikTok that made you laugh for 10 minutes straight or that one life hack that improved your life 10-fold. So many people make TikToks every minute, and it’s easy for one to get washed away. You just have to wait until you happen to see it again or try your luck with searching it up. However, TikTok might be looking to fix this with a new watch history feature. The tweet by Hammod Oh shows a leaked screenshot of the TikTok app. It shows a menu with items like App Language and Content Preferences. Between those, we Watch History.
Take this with a grain of salt
Right now, all we have to go on is this leak. Suffice to say, you should take this with a grain of salt. There’s one issue that TikTok will need to deal with. We’ve all had a good old binge-watching session on YouTube. We fly through a bunch of videos in a sitting and wrack fill up our watch history. However, that pales in comparison to how many videos people flip through in even 10 minutes on TikTok. A person could easily wrack up hundreds of videos on their watch history in a day. We’re wondering how many videos TikTok will store in the history before it has to start deleting items. Even YouTube deletes its history at some point. The watch history function on TikTok might not catalog the videos for long due to how many videos people watch each day. Right now, there’s no word on when we should expect this feature to land. The leaked screenshot might be from a limited test or an early alpha. We have no idea if this feature will even come out at all.
