The display is one of the components that drains the most battery in a phone. Aside from brightness and refresh rate, the resolution also plays a big role in battery drain. This is why phones with pixel-dense displays give you the option to lower the display resolution in order to conserve battery life.
The Pixel 6 Pro will be able to change its screen resolution
The Pixel 6 Pro has a QHD+ display. This gives it amazing visuals, but powering that many pixels takes its toll on the battery life. Fortunately, according to Phone Arena, a new update coming to the Pixel 6 Pro will give it the ability to lower its display resolution to FHD+. That’s the same resolution as the base Pixel 6 and Pixel 7. That’s the good news, but the bad news is that you’re going to have to wait for this feature if you own a Pixel 6 Pro. Google does not plan to release this update until March 2023. That’s when Pixel phones will be getting the next QPR. So, if you’re excited about this feature, you’ll have to wait until March 6th.
What else can we expect from the next update?
At this point, it’s hard to say which features will be coming on March 6th and which ones will be pulled. 9To5Google was able to enable some of the features expected to come with the next update. Some of these changes include a revamped back gesture, a taskbar that can be hidden, a quick launch feature, a desktop mode, and more.
