Everything that has wireless capabilities needs to get approved by the FCC before it can be sold. Which is why we see so many unreleased phones head to the FCC first. On Monday, the FCC approved a handful of Pixel 6 models. There’s the GLU0G and G8VOU for the Pixel 6 Pro. And then the G9S9B and GB7N6 for the Pixel 6. The only difference that can be seen here, is that one of these is a mmWave model, while the other is not. Likely meaning that there is a Verizon or US specific model. While the rest of the world or other carriers get the Sub-6 model. The listing also shows that the Pixel 6 Pro is the only one with UWB support. This is the technology that is being used for a few different things like digital car keys and the ability to find things – like with the Galaxy SmartTag.
Google should announce the Pixel 6 next month
While we don’t yet have any details or event invites from Google, we do expect to see the Pixel 6 unveiled next month. Typically Google announces the Pixel 6 around the first or second week of October and it becomes available before the end of October. We’d expect the same thing this year. Though, Google doesn’t have much to unveil at this point, since it has pretty much confirmed everything there is to know about the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Though there are still some questions that need to be answered. Mostly around the camera and the processor. Since the processor is the first in-house chipset from Google – the Tensor SoC.
