Nothing is bringing back the invite system for the initial Nothing Phone (1) sales
Nothing did use the word “initially”, and that particular tidbit was revealed in the company’s new ‘Inside phone (1)’ video, the second part of the series. That video is embedded below the article, and it also kind of confirms that a 120Hz display will be included on the phone. You can read more about that by clicking here. In any case, let’s circle back to the invite system. You can watch the part about the invite system at the 13:20 mark, so towards the end of the video. The invite system is clearly confirmed here. Why, though? Well, in the video, Nothing employees claim it’s to get it to the “people who deserve it the most” first, and once “they’re happy”, the company will be “more than happy to open wider” sales.
Nothing doesn’t want to rush into making a ton of phones before assessing the market
While that could be a part of the reason, it’s not the whole story. Nothing probably can’t manufacture a ton of units at once, which was OnePlus’ problem at first too. Also, the company probably doesn’t want to. It probably wants to get an indication as to how many people are interested, to know how many phones to offer (which is also kind of hinted at in the video). We’re not entirely sure how the invite system will work, but it remains to be seen. Nothing may copy OnePlus’ entire approach, though. This is not the first play Nothing took from OnePlus’ playbook. That is not surprising considering Carl Pei founded the company. Nothing has been teasing the Phone (1) piece by piece, basically assembling a puzzle one step at a time. The phone itself will become official on July 12, in case you were wondering.
