It tasks players with discovering the mysteries of a sudden and unknown shutdown of the Ascent Group. As an indentured worker of the company, you live in its giant arcology building. And following the shutdown you’re tossed into the deep end of all the chaos. Your livelihood, and the livelihood of your district within the arcology rests upon your ability to figure out what’s going on. Even if you have to shoot your way to the answers. With the upcoming DLC, expect a lot of the same action-packed disorder.
The Ascent: Cyber Heist takes players through beautiful new environments
In The Ascent: Cyber Heist, you’ll be taking on a top-secret job as a newly independent contractor. The DLC takes place in a new arcology building owned by another mega corp. called the Malhorst-Gelb Group (players will be familiar with this name if they’ve played through The Ascent). That means an entirely new set of locations to explore. Which is excellent news for anyone that played and loved the base game. One of the best parts about The Ascent was its colorful and detailed world. Jampacked environments with lively inhabitants all basking in the neon glow of this far-flung cyberpunk future. The Ascent: Cyber Heist promises much more of that to satiate your hunger for exploration in that future. In addition to new locales, players will also get access to a new arsenal of weapons. Including katanas, which you can see in the trailer below. Development studio Neon Giant also mentions two melee weapons by name – the Rock Crusher and the Guillotine. Which sound like they’ll provide some devilishly fun up-close combat.
Continue the story solo or in co-op
Just like with the base game, The Ascent: Cyber Heist will be playable completely solo or with friends in the game’s co-op mode. You will however have to complete the main story of the base game before you can access the Cyber Heist story. Once you reach that point, you can take on new main missions and side quests to continue the story of the game. Players will be introduced to both “colorful new characters” and have to face new enemies. The Ascent: Cyber Heist is due to launch on August 18 for $9.99. While the studio doesn’t mention platform availability, the DLC should be available on every platform the game is available on. Which includes PC via Steam and The Windows Store, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The Ascent can also be accessed via Game Pass but there’s no indication the new DLC will be a part of that.
