Horizon Call Of The Mountain will be a new game in the Horizon franchise from Guerilla Games and Firesprite. This is a standalone title built specifically for PS VR2. Allowing players to delve deeper into Horizon’s world and explore it like never before. Sony doesn’t mention any sort of time frame, naturally. Since it has yet to confirm any official release date for the headset itself. It’s also given an official name to the controllers, called the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers. There’s probably no surprise there either, given that this headset is for the PS5 whose own controller is called the DualSense. Not to mention the PS VR2 Sense controllers will have some of the innovative DualSense features.
The Sony PS VR2 headset will deliver new sensory features & more
Sony briefly talked about some of the PS VR2 and PS VR2 Sense controller features back in 2021. But there was a lot that wasn’t known at the time that Sony is finally sharing about this tech. For instance, the high fidelity visuals with a single cord setup will offer 4K HDR with a 110-degree field of view, and have a display resolution of 2000 x 2040 in each eye. It’ll also deliver frame rates of 90 and 120Hz. The controller tracking is headset-based. Thanks to integrated cameras in the headset itself, games will know which way you look just by you physically looking in any direction you turn. The headset also features eye tracking. So, looking in a specific direction can also be used as an additional input beyond the controller buttons and joysticks. Sony says this will impact games in a way that allows players to interact more intuitively in “new lifelike ways.” As for the new sensory features, headset feedback and 3D Audio will add to the overall immersion. The way Sony describes it, players will be able to feel things like a character’s elevated pulse or things whizzing by you. Which should make for some truly unprecedented gameplay experiences. Lastly, Sony also shares the specs of the headset and controllers. Which you can view in the screenshots below. Update: Tuesday, January 25, 2022 While the display resolution per eye was already confirmed by Sony in its original blog post, some new information has surfaced from Twitter user Ross Young which breaks down the PPI (pixels per inch) per eye. According to Ross, the 2000 x 2040 panel in each eye will have a PPI of 800. Compared to the PPI of the original PS VR of 386.
