The announcement about the mobile-focused studio was part of Sony’s announcement for the acquisition of Savage Game Studios. Which will also be joining the new team. Savage Game Studios itself has only been around for a few years. But according to Sony, the teams are made up of people who have worked on some of the world’s most popular mobile games. Savage however doesn’t have any games under its own roof yet though. Which means its first title will be under the PlayStation Studios Mobile brand.

PlayStation Studios Mobile will focus on new and existing IPs

Sony’s efforts diving into the mobile space are basically all about reach. They’re a way for Sony to reach and engage with more players who may not be familiar with PlayStation exclusive titles or the PlayStation brand. Sony says its new mobile-focused studio will be working on new and existing IPs that it will bring to the mobile market. As mentioned above, Sony confirms that the mobile studio will operate independently from its console development teams to produce games that are “innovative, on-the-go experiences.” Sony also states that these games on mobile won’t degrade the branding of their already established console IPs. Sony explicitly states that its efforts on mobile won’t diminish its commitment to the PlayStation community at large. And so far the company seems to be living up to that. Following PlayStation’s announcement that it would be bringing some of its most popular titles to PC, there was some worry and fan backlash that Sony would effectively be watering down its offerings. On the contrary though, Sony’s PlayStation Studios releases on PC have all done exceptionally well. All it has to do is bring that same energy to mobile releases. To that end, Sony says that Savage is already hard at work on a new unannounced AAA live service game for mobile. Though it wouldn’t say exactly what the game was.
