Android has been plagued with a handful of issues since Android 12 launched back in October. Everything from crashing games when the wallpaper is changed to Wi-Fi issues. With Android 12L, Google squashed a lot of those bugs, but it seems that more keep creeping in.
New bug disables the contactless payments on some Pixel phones
The next bug to creep in is a doozy if you typically use contactless payments. With this next bug, some Pixel phone users find they can’t use contactless payments. Whenever they try to, they’re met with this popup saying “This phone doesn’t meet software standards”. That’s an odd message to be displayed. It continues to say “[Your device] may be rooted or running uncertified software”. While having a rooted Pixel isn’t out of the question, the updates are coming straight from Google, so the software is definitely certified. So far, there are only reports from users with the Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, and the Pixel 5. There’s no telling if it’s just those three phones or if others are affected but haven’t reported.
There doesn’t seem to be a local fix for the issue
One user who reported the issue followed through and contacted Google for help. After getting into contact with the company, he followed the steps to help fix the problem, but nothing worked. NFC was turned on, Google Play Protect was activated and his software is completely legitimate. This means that Google will need to issue an update to fix this problem. Right now, the company is already dealing with a bunch of OTAs for its phones at the moment, but there are still issues that keep popping up. Users also reported an issue with the status bar on the final release of Android 12L. Let’s just hope that Google can get these issues fixed soon.
