The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is tipped to offer a 20% performance boost
The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 doesn’t run nearly as hot as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Its power efficiency is really good, so if the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will offer the same, those are actually good news. We were amazed by the difference between the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, to be quite honest. A performance boost is always welcomed, as long as it doesn’t affect the thermals and power consumption. That being said, this is not the first time we’re hearing about the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 details. Not at all. In fact, a well-known tipster, Ice Universe, shared quite a bit of details last month.
The chip is expected to deliver “greatly improved” GPU, NPU, and ISP
He said that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is coming with a “greatly improved” GPU, NPU, and ISP. Those are all great news, needless to say. He also wrote that TSMC is making this chip, and that it will be a 4nm chip. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 was made by Samsung, while the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was manufactured by TSMC. Considering the improvement the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 represented, it’s good to see the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is also coming from TSMC. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will move to a four-cluster architecture it seems. Its two predecessors actually use a tri-cluster setup. This chip is expected to utilize three Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 2.0GHz, two Cortex-A710 clocked at 2.8GHz, and two Cortex-A715 cores set at 2.8GHz. The last, but not least, is one Cortex-X3 core clocked at 3.2GHz. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is expected to arrive in the near future. Qualcomm will announce it before the end of the year, and we’re guessing it’s coming in November, but we’ll see. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 launched on November 30.
