Samsung is tipped to manufacture upcoming Snapdragon flagship SoC that will fuel the Galaxy S22

This information comes from China, and it hasn’t been confirmed just yet. That chip will supposedly improve the overall performance by 20-percent. It will also employ a three-cluster architecture. It’s expected to include a large Cortex-X2 core, a Cortex-A710 core, and a small Cortex-A510 core. As expected, this processor will likely launch in December. That is the usual time frame for Qualcomm’s flagship chips, and this report tips December as the launch month. The Snapdragon 898 will become available in either December or January, just in time for Samsung’s new flagships. The US version of the phone will almost certainly include that processor. Samsung’s Exynos processor with a GPU from AMD is also said to be coming. Versions of the Galaxy S22 with that chip won’t be available in as many markets. They won’t be available in Korea, and quite possibly not in the US either.

The Snapdragon 888 Plus is coming in H2 2022

Now, the report also touched upon the Snapdragon 898 Plus. That chip is allegedly coming in the second half of 2022, as did the Snapdragon 888 Plus. What’s interesting is that the Snapdragon 898 Plus won’t be manufactured by Samsung, as TSMC will take the baton. It will also be made using a 4nm process. It will be interesting to see how will the Snapdragon 898 and Samsung’s Exynos chips with AMD GPU compare. Initial reports said that the new Exynos chip will crush it in the GPU department, which is to be expected. The thing is, it remains to be seen how will it perform overall, and how much power will it require. There are a lot of performance aspects to consider. 2022 will be quite interesting in the mobile world, it seems, at least from the SoC point of view.
