As of this writing, the original Galaxy Z Flip is receiving Android 13 in Europe. The rollout has begun in Italy, with the handset picking up the firmware version F700FXXUAIVK3 (via). Samsung should soon cover all eligible units in the region, and also update the foldable in other markets, including the US. This update contains plenty of goodies for the Galaxy Z Flip. One UI 5.0 brings the best of Google’s Android 13 software with Samsung’s customizations and add-ons on top. For starters, we have a minor UI redesign with bolder app icons and smoother system animations. There are also several new customization options, with the Korean firm now letting you customize your wallpaper, clock style, and other UI elements directly from the lockscreen. Elsewhere, Samsung has improved the camera experience with features. There are also new editing features to enable more effective post-processing of photos. The Korean firm has added OCR (Optical Character Recognition) too, letting you extract text from images, or directly from the camera viewfinder. Last but not least, the Android 13-based One UI 5.0 improves the accessibility, privacy, and security of your Galaxy smartphone.
The original Galaxy Z Flip also makes the jump to Android 13
The big Android update for the Galaxy Z Flip also brings the latest security patch. Samsung has already revealed that the November SMR (Security Maintenance Release) patches more than 60 vulnerabilities. The majority of those were Android OS issues, but the Korean firm patched several Galaxy-specific flaws as well. If you are one of the early adopters of Samsung’s clamshell foldable smartphones and are still holding on to the first-gen model, you will soon get a huge update with all these vulnerability fixes and new features. As usual, you can check for the new software package from the Settings app. Head over to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. Since updates are rolled out in batches, not everyone will get this release at the same time. You should receive a notification for it once the new software package is available for your Galaxy Z Flip unit. If you’re on a limited mobile data plan, we advise you to download the update over a stable Wi-Fi network.
