Originally posted on the popular Chinese social network Weibo and shared on Twitter, a leaked photo of the supposed Motorola Frontier 22 shows us its rear camera array. We have three cameras and an LED flash unit housed in a neatly designed rectangular island. The camera module has a “200MP HP1” label, confirming the rumors. The same label also confirms OIS (optical image stabilization) and an F/2.2 aperture. The ISOCELL HP1 is a 1/1.22-inch sensor featuring 200 million 0.64μm pixels that can capture 16,384 x 12,288 resolution images. In low-light conditions, the camera uses 2×2 pixel binning to merge four neighboring pixels and increase the pixel size to 1.28μm, allowing more light to pass through. It captures 50MP stills with pixel binning. If it’s too dark, 4×4 pixel binning (merging 16 neighboring pixels) would transform it into a 12.5MP camera with 2.56μm-sized pixels. This camera can record 8K videos at 30fps (frames per second). It supports 2×2 pixel binning for 8K videos as well. The Samsung ISOCELL HP1 uses Double Super PD (phase detection) autofocus technology.

A Motorola smartphone to debut Samsung’s 200MP camera

Xiaomi was initially rumored to debut the ISOCELL HP1 camera this year. But recent reports suggest the Chinese brand has switched to a Sony sensor and Motorola could be the first to launch a smartphone with a 200MP camera. While this leaked photo doesn’t tell much about the phone, we already know quite a lot thanks to prior leaks. The Motorola Frontier 22 will reportedly sport a 6.67-inch FHD+ curved AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and HDR 10+ support. The device could have Qualcomm’s unannounced Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ processor under the hood with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The 200MP main camera will be accompanied by a 50MP ultrawide lens and a 12MP telephoto camera on the back. The front-facing camera will be a 60MP sensor. A 4,500mAh battery with 125W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, stereo speakers, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC are some other highlights of the Motorola Frontier 22. The device is expected to go official in July this year.
