This update for the unlocked Galaxy Z Flip 3 in the US comes with firmware version F711U1TBS2DVEG. The OTA (over the air) rollout is already available on several carrier networks, including AT&T and Cellular South. The remaining few carriers should also get on the act shortly. The 2021 clamshell foldable from Samsung doesn’t seem to be getting any new features or user-facing changes with this update. It’s all about the vulnerability fixes that are part of the July SMR (Security Maintenance Release). Unfortunately, the Korean firm has yet to publish the patch details, so there’s confirmation on the number of vulnerabilities it fixes or their severity. We expect the company to share those details later this week. As for new features, Samsung is currently working on One UI 4.1.1 for its foldables. The new version of its custom Android software, which is based on Android 12, will debut on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 next month. It should soon roll out to older foldable models as well, including the Galaxy Z Flip 3. The Android 13 update will follow a few months later, along with One UI 5.0. In the meantime, the device will receive several security updates. If you’re using an unlocked unit in the US, the July SMR is already headed your way. Be on the lookout for a notification prompting you to download the OTA update. You can also check for updates manually from the Settings app, under the Software update menu.
July update for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 should go global soon
Samsung began rolling out the July security patch to its devices last week and has already seeded the new SMR to the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S21, and Galaxy Note 20 flagships, as well as a couple of Galaxy A series mid-rangers. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is the latest entrant to the party. While all other devices first received the July SMR in international markets, that for the latter has begun in the US. But it shouldn’t be long before the Galaxy Z Flip 3 starts picking up the latest security update in other parts of the world. The likes of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy S20 series will also soon grab the new SMR.
