According to the aforementioned retail listings, the new Galaxy S21 FE will switch to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720G processor. That’s a downgrade from the Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100 found on the existing model. Samsung may be looking to make an even cheaper Galaxy flagship with 4G (LTE) cellular connectivity. But there are also rumors of it supporting 5G. We shall find out soon. Apart from the less powerful processor, not much else changes on the new Galaxy S21 FE, though. The device still features a 6.4-inch FHD+ display and comes with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of storage. The triple rear camera setup, which includes a 12-megapixel primary shooter, a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto zoom camera, also carries over unchanged, and so does the 32-megapixel selfie camera and the 4,500mAh battery. The color options are reportedly the same as well: gray, purple, green, and white.
Samsung is preparing a cheaper Galaxy S21 FE
The Galaxy S21 FE launch was nothing short of a rollercoaster last year. One moment, the phone appeared to be headed to the market, the other moment, reports emerged it may have been delayed or perhaps canceled. Samsung eventually launched the affordable Galaxy flagship in January this year, just about a month before the Galaxy S22 series arrived. The Galaxy S22 base model started at $800, just $100 more than what Samsung charged for the Galaxy S21 FE. As such, the latter was hard to recommend to anyone unless their budget cap is $700. Even at that price range, there are arguably better options, such as the Google Pixel 6. It appears Samsung has found it tough to sell the Galaxy S21 FE at its current price, unsurprisingly. The company may now be looking to make it cheaper with some hardware changes, i.e. a less powerful processor. It will be interesting to see how low Samsung can go with this phone’s price. The Korean behemoth also has the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 coming in a couple of months. So if a new Galaxy S21 FE is coming, the company may not want to introduce it too close to the new foldables. We should be hearing more about the phone, including its price and availability details, in the coming days.
