The Korean behemoth apparently wants to expand the production of its Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series foldables. It aims to sell no less than 25 million units of the next-gen foldable devices in a year. Samsung is further looking to hire 2,200 to 3,000 engineers and researchers for its upcoming R&D center in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam. The $220 million research center is on track to become operational next year. Samsung currently operates six production facilities across Vietnam. It produces most of its smartphones, tablets, home appliances, and other electronics in the country. The company employs more than 160,000 workers across these production facilities. Vietnam isn’t the only country where Samsung is creating new jobs though. Last month, the company promised to create 50,000 retail jobs in India through its DOST initiative, which expands to Digital and Offline Service Training. DOST also happens to be the Hindi word for friend. Moreover, Samsung is also planning a similar initiative for its home country South Korea. The company will create 30,000 new jobs in the country over the next three years. The initiative is a part of its CSR (corporate social responsibility) plan.

It’s no secret that Samsung sees foldables as the future of smartphones. The Korean company is investing heavily in making foldables mainstream devices. We have already seen a glimpse of what the future holds for these devices with the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Flip 3 last month. The new Galaxy foldables broke the sales record within weeks of launch. Samsung is now looking to further reduce the entry price of foldable smartphones next year, so more people can afford them. That also means that the company needs to produce more units of these phones. In turn, it needs more workers in its factories. To that end, the Korean behemoth is now on a hiring spree. The same report reveals that Samsung’s compatriot LG is also hiring thousands of IT and R&D engineers. The company may have quit the smartphone business, but it is active in several other related industries, including displays. It is reportedly 5,000 workers at its display factory in Hai Phong city, Vietnam. LG operates three factories in the city, where it produces TV, vacuum cleaners, and various other home appliances.
