Out of the 15 million foldables, Samsung sees the Galaxy Z Flip 4 accounting for two-thirds, i.e. ten million. The Korean firm wants to sell at least five million Galaxy Z Fold 4 units. The 2:1 ratio of the Flip and Fold lineup is pretty much unchanged from last year. But the new report says Samsung is looking to increase the proportion of the Fold lineup. Rumors are that the company will reduce the entry price of the Fold series to attract more buyers. Perhaps that increase won’t be significant enough to impact the overall ratio. Nonetheless, this isn’t the first time we have heard of Samsung aiming to significantly increase its foldable sales in 2022. Back in March, Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO Ross Young claimed that the Korean firm has ordered 70 percent more foldable screens for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 than for the 2021 model. Another report last month suggested the same. The latest report further makes clear what Samsung is targeting in the foldable market this year. Despite it expecting a slowdown in the smartphone industry in 2022, the company sees enough opportunity for a two-fold growth in the sales of the “unconventional” smartphones. On the other hand, the Korean behemoth has reduced its overall shipment target by ten percent (from 300 million units to 270 million). If Samsung manages to achieve its target, it could very well solidify its lead in the foldable market. The company has captured a lion’s share in this niche from the very beginning. But this year is expected to be a bit difficult for it as several other companies have entered the race. Time will tell who emerges as a viable competitor to Samsung in the foldable segment.

Samsung may launch its 2022 foldable models in early August

Samsung has yet to officially announce the date for its next Unpacked event where it will unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. But rumors are that the new foldables will arrive on August 10, with sales beginning on August 26. The Galaxy Watch 5 series should also break cover at the same event. Perhaps the Galaxy Buds Pro 2 as well. We will inform you once we have more details.
