Images and videos posted on Twitter Monday morning showed a thick cloud of black smoke engulfing the skyscraper after the missile strike. The damaged building with shattered windows is visible in the social media posts. It is being reported that several people have been hurt by this missile attack. However, Samsung confirmed that none of its employees in the office suffered any injury. It released the following statement shortly after the media reports (via): “We can confirm that none of our employees at Samsung Ukraine has been hurt. Some of the office windows were damaged due to the impact of the blast that occurred 150 meters away. We remain committed to ensuring the safety of our employees and will continue to closely monitor the situation.” This high-rise is one of the many other infrastructure buildings in Ukraine damaged by Russian missiles Monday. Russia launched a barrage of missile attacks into the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and other cities today morning around the rush hour when people were on their way to school or work. Several casualties have been reported.
Samsung plans to resume business operations in Russia this month
Samsung was one of the first tech companies to suspend business operations in Russia following the country’s invasion of Ukraine earlier this year. It stopped selling or shipping smartphones, TVs, and other electronic products in Russia. The company also halted operations at its TV manufacturing factory in the country. All this came as the US and Europe announced a barrage of sanctions on Russia, making it difficult for foreign companies to do business there. However, the Russian media last month reported that Samsung is considering resuming business in the country in October. We don’t yet have any communication from the company but it reportedly wants to start selling smartphones there again. It’s unclear if the reports were true or whether Samsung still intends to continue with the plans following Russia’s latest attack on Ukraine, which also damaged its regional headquarters and R&D office.
