What is this GTA Definitive Edition, and what will it pack?
Rockstar Games is bringing back the classic Grand Theft Auto games that were released in the early 2000s. These are Grand Theft Auto III (2001) Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002), and Grand Theft: Auto San Andreas (2004). According to the company, these will be remasters, which means that they will have some graphical tweaks and polish, but they’ll still retain the original aesthetic. Rockstar also stated that there will be “modern gameplay enhancements” to the Grand Theft Auto trilogy. This could point to any sort of improvement from better controls to an overhaul of the saving system. Let’s be honest, none of us liked the designated saving spots from the original games. As for other changesm the sky’s the limit.
The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy will come on basically every platform
Rockstar Games really wants this remaster to reach the masses; consequently, the trilogy will be available pretty much everywhere. Later this year, it will launch for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. If that’s not enough, these games will also launch on iOS and Android, but that won’t happen until some time in the first half of 2022. We wouldn’t be surprised if we see The Grand Theft Auto trilogy launching on smartwatches at this point! Since this remaster is going to be coming out, and since it’s going to encapsulate the three games, Rockstar will remove the classic GTA titles from its online stores, which should come as no surprise, to be honest. This will go down later this week, so if it hasn’t happened yet, it will in the next couple of days.
Expect some goodies in GTA Online
To help celebrate this launch and GTA III’s 20th anniversary, Rockstar Games will be placing special items and gear in GTA Online. It didn’t say what exactly, but we know that it will include clothing and liveries. We can expect items, weapons, and clothing from the three classic games. Folks will be able to get these from events that will be going on over the fall. There’s no word on when Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy-Definitive Edition will launch or how much it will cost when it does. All we know is that we can expect it on consoles and PC later this year, and mobile gaming plarforms next year.
