The Snapdragon 782G brings a minor GPU and GPU boost
The Snapdragon 782G is fabricated on the same 6nm TSMC process node as the Snapdragon 778G Plus and features the same octa-core CPU setup. However, its ARM Cortex-A78-based Kryo 670 Prime core is operating at a frequency of 2.7GHz. That’s 200MHz faster than the existing solution’s maximum operating frequency of 2.5GHz. Qualcomm says this enables a five percent improvement in CPU performance even though there’s no change in the rest of the CPU setup. We are still getting three Cortex-78-based Kryo 670 Gold cores clocked at 2.2GHz and four Cortex-A55-based Kryo 670 Silver cores clocked at 1.9GHz. The new Qualcomm processor also retains the Adreno 642L GPU. But the company claims ten percent faster graphics performance as compared to the Snapdragon 778G Plus (via). Unfortunately, a minor CPU and GPU boost appears to be all the Snapdragon 782G will bring to the table. There’s no other significant upgrade to talk about. It features the Snapdragon X53 5G modem for mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G networks. The new chipset can handle Full HD+ resolution displays at a 144Hz refresh rate and 4K resolution displays at 60Hz. It also supports up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The Snapdragon 782G comes with the Spectra 570L ISP (Image Signal Processor) built-in. It can handle up to a 200MP single camera or three 22MP cameras simultaneously. We are also getting 10-bit color depth, up to 4K HDR video recording, Quick Charge 4+, aptX Adaptive audio codec, Qualcomm’s FastConnect 6700 system, a dual-frequency positioning system, and support for 3D Sonic fingerprint reading sensors.
This processor should power premium mid-range phones in 2023
Qualcomm hasn’t revealed when the first batch of the Snapdragon 782G-powered smartphones will arrive in the market. It hasn’t even announced any OEM partners for the chipset yet. But we expect to see it inside premium mid-range Android smartphones launching next year. The Nothing Phone (1) features the Snapdragon 778G Plus. Maybe its successor will get the Snapdragon 782G. We will let you know as soon as we have more information.
