Plex launches Discover, a one-stop-shop for all streaming services
To solve this “streaming struggle,” Plex has developed a one-stop solution that will aggregate content from all popular streaming services. You will be able to search for “anything and everything in the streaming universe from a single destination”. We are not talking about the five most popular services here, or even ten. Plex will let you find content from hundreds of them, depending on availability in your region. You can select the streaming services you are subscribed to and Plex’s Discover feature will unify them all in one place. This eliminates the pain of having to juggle through multiple apps to check your watchlist or find what’s available on which platform. Plex will also let you create a single watchlist for content across all of your streaming services. If you add an unreleased movie or show to your Plex watchlist, the app will notify you when it releases. You will even get recommendations based on your interest and past viewing habits. On top of this, Plex will help you find where a particular title is available. So if you want to watch a certain show but don’t know which service(s) hosts it, Plex has got you covered. You can search using the show’s name or actor or director or any other related keyword. The app will even tell whether it is available for free or needs a subscription.

When Plex first arrived in the market, it provided you with a self-hosted media streaming solution. You could create a server of movies and TV shows and share them with your friends and family. The platform slowly grew into a streaming service of its own. It currently hosts more than 50,000 titles and over 250 free Live TV channels. But despite its own offerings, Plex will also let you find content from its rivals. “HBO Max didn’t want to tell you what was on Hulu, and Netflix wants you to watch Ryan Reynolds in Red Notice without alerting you that Ryan Reynolds is also starring in Free Guy on Disney+ as well as on HBO Max,” the company says. “Our mission is to serve you and your needs. Even if it means sending you to one of our many well-funded competitors.”
