The video itself has a duration of around 10 minutes, and it’s embedded below the article. In the article, itself, we’ll talk about that test, and how the phone did across Zack’s usual durability tests.
The Pixel 7 Pro barely survived a series of durability tests
So, the first test is, as per usual, the scratch resistance. There were no surprises here. The phone ended up being scratched with a level 6 pick, with deeper grooves at a level 7. That’s standard for the Gorilla Glass Victus that Google used here. It’s worth noting that the front-facing camera is also covered by that protection, and so is the phone’s backplate. Zack proved that the frame is made out of metal, as are the buttons. The source also demonstrated how easy it is to scratch the phone’s camera visor. It is covered by aluminum this time around. Google used 100-percent recycled aluminum here, the same one it used for the frame itself. Scratching this camera visor is not a problem. In fact, it was scratched before Zack even kicked off the durability test. So, using a case with the device may be a good idea. Aluminum won’t shatter as easily as glass, but it sure picks up scratches real easy. The fingerprint scanner actually worked even when the screen above it got scratched. The pixels lasted about 20 seconds under a direct flame, and did not recover after that. The burn test is not that useful, but Zack has a habit of doing it either way, just for fun.
The phone did not snap in half, but it did snap
Now we come to the fun part, the bend test. The Pixel 7 Pro did not break in half during the bend test, but it was close to it. That antenna line below the camera visor on the left side of the phone seems to be problematic. It did snap around that area, so the phone bent, but it did not snap, and it continued working. This did basically render the phone’s IP rating useless. All things considered, Google could have done a better job with structural integrity, and made the phone a bit more sturdy. It is quite hefty, so Zack did expect it to do better than it did.
