Google had a pretty useful face unlock mechanism for its Pixel 4 phones, so much so that it got rid of the fingerprint sensor because of it....

The issue of privacy in web browsers has become more critical. Today, we see that many browsers are focusing on privacy, and Firefox Focus is one of them. The Total Cookie Protection feature stores websites’ cookies separately in “cookie jars.” According to the designers of this feature, storing cookies separately can prevent sites from storing user information. Sites may sometimes store information about shopping patterns and pages visited and use it for advertising purposes and target audiences....

Under the Hart-Scott-Rodino (HSR) Act, acquisitions of over $92 million need to be reported to the Department of Justice and the FTC for antitrust review. The HSR Act brought the federal premerger notification program to rein in large acquisitions. The FTC also wants to look into non-compete clauses written into merger agreements The FTC discovered that the five tech companies conducted 616 non-reportable transactions between 2010 and 2019. Moreover, the agency found that a significant portion of them exceeded the $92 million HSR threshold....

The Galaxy Note 20 series is getting the September update The Galaxy Note 20 series is currently receiving this month’s security update in Europe. According to SamMobile, who first reported this rollout, the new SMR is available in several countries in the region, including Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the UK. It should soon cross the European boundaries and reach other markets such as the US. The latest update bears the firmware version N98FXXS5FVH7 for the 4G models of the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra....

Reports of Google planning to “un-spam” campaign emails from registered political parties in the US first emerged in June this year. The company wanted to distance itself from alleged partisanship. Political organizations complained that it was filtering emails from one party as spam more than the other. Of course, no one believed its claimed innocence on the matter. To prove that its spam filter algorithm is unbiased, it now wants to exempt all such emails from spam filter by default and leave it to users to decide....

Legal issues between the two companies have not yet been resolved, but it appears that Google was considering buying Epic as part of its plan to close the case. Epic claims that Google has pursued and exaggerated its monopoly policies. “Google has gone so far as to share its monopoly profits with business partners to secure their agreement to fence out competition, has developed a series of internal projects to address the “contagion” it perceived from efforts by Epic and others to offer consumers and developers competitive alternatives, and has even contemplated buying some or all of Epic to squelch this threat....
