The October SMR (Security Maintenance Release) for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is rolling out with firmware version F926BXXS2CVIG in Asia, Europe, and Australia. In the US, the update is currently only available for unlocked units and comes with firmware version F926U1UES2DVI4. Samsung should soon cover carrier-locked variants in the US, while also expanding the update to markets like Latin America and its homeland South Korea. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 is also picking up the October SMR in the same markets as the Fold model. The new firmware version for the unlocked variants in the US is F711U1TBS3DVI4. That for units in Asia, Europe, Australia, and Africa is F711BXXS3CVIG. Over the next few days, Samsung should update last year’s clamshell foldable with the latest security patch in the remaining markets. Neither the Galaxy Z Fold 3 nor the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is receiving any new features or changes with this update. The latest release is all about vulnerability fixes for this month. Samsung revealed earlier this month that the October SMR patches more than 50 vulnerabilities. These include patches for over 30 Android OS issues by Google. The Korean firm patched 20-odd Galaxy-specific flaws affecting various device components, apps, and services. If you’re among those 7-8 million people who reportedly purchased a Galaxy Z Fold 3 or Galaxy Z Flip 3, your foldable is about to receive a new software update unless you have already updated it to the October security patch. You can check for updates from the Settings app or wait for a notification prompting you to download the new software package.
