According to a SamMobile report, the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra are picking up this month’s SMR (security maintenance release) with firmware version N98xxXXS3DUJ6. This update is unlikely to bring any new features. But when it comes to vulnerability updates, there are plenty of them. Samsung earlier this week confirmed that the November SMR contains fixes for more than 50 privacy issues found in Android OS. These include 13 SVE (Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures) items as well. These are security flaws that only affect the Korean firm’s Android-powered Galaxy smartphones and tablets. At least four of the vulnerabilities patched this month were of critical severity, the company said. All of these security fixes are now coming over to the Galaxy Note 20 series with the latest update.
Galaxy Note 20 joins the November security update party
The Galaxy Note 20 is not the first Samsung smartphone to receive this month’s security patch. The Korean firm, which has consistently beaten every other Android OEM to the latest security update for some time now, began rolling out the November SMR in the last week of October. The Galaxy S21 series was the first to pick up the latest security patch from Samsung. Since then, the Galaxy S20 series, Galaxy S10 series, Galaxy S9 series, and the Galaxy A32 mid-ranger have all received the update. The Galaxy Note 20 series is now joining the party as well. If you’re rocking either of the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and live in the UK, you can expect to receive this update in the coming days. While you should get a notification about the OTA (over the air) update, you can also manually check for updates from the Settings app on your phone. Simply navigate to the Software update menu and tap on Download and install. If an OTA update is available, you’ll be prompted to download it. Galaxy Note 20 users in other regions can also look out for the November security update in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Samsung is getting ever so closer to releasing the Android 12-based One UI 4.0 update. We expect the new Android version to hit the Galaxy Note 20 series early next year.
