The Expansion Pack is filled with retro classics from both platforms. Including Star Fox 64, Super Mario 64, Echo The Dolphin and others. Nintendo says that the Online Expansion Pack will go live sometime next month. However it has yet to share any information on cost or exact arrival times.
The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack will bring some games online
For fans of retro games, the announcement of this new subscription tier should be exciting. Access to a big bag of fan favorites from years long passed, what’s not to love? But it seems that things get even better. Not only is Nintendo rolling a retro library into Nintendo Switch Online with a new tier, it’s also making some of those games playable online. Optionally of course. Games like Mario 64 will now be playable online with up to four players. So if your friends are dying for a taste of the old days with a classic Mario Kart title, you can enjoy that sort of nostalgia in a way. Even if you’re all in different parts of the world, or just across town. Aside from the few games mentioned above, the Expansion Pack will also include a wide array of other titles. Though, not all of them will be available at launch. Some N64 games for example will be added later on, and Nintendo plans to add more that it hasn’t even announced yet. You can find the full suite of games being added at launch in the images below. As for upcoming games, Nintendo also plans to add Banjo Kazooie, Pokemon Snap, The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards, Mario Golf, Paper Mario, and F-Zero X.
Wireless versions of the N64 and Genesis controllers will be available
If you want, you’ll be able to play all of these games with your regular Switch controllers, like the Joy Con or the Switch Pro controller. But you’ll have other options. Nintendo will be selling wireless versions of the N64 controller and the Genesis controller. So you get the retro feel for those games, but without the cord. These will be $50 each and can purchased by anyone with a Nintendo Switch + Online Expansion Pack subscription.
