The new update reportedly adds the ability to answer phone calls, control other apps, and much more. Among the four highlighting features, is the ability to answer phone calls in your car. Incoming calls will show you the contact’s name and phone number, along with buttons to answer or reject the call. The Spotify Car Thing also gains the ability to control other media apps.

Now, you can use the Spotify Car Thing to not only control Spotify but other media apps as well. So, for instance, if you are running a song from YouTube using background play, then you can control it from the “Now Playing” screen. Besides, if you are listening to a podcast from Pocketcasts or Google Podcasts, you will be able to control it from your Spotify Car Thing’s “Now Playing” screen. Additionally, the device is also getting the “add to queue” feature. This feature is live on the touchscreen and is also available using the long press of the dial and new voice command too. Spotify is also adding the ability to use voice commands to get a personalized playlist for any mood. All you have to do is request any genre or mood that describes the type of music you want to listen to and bam! Spotify will play it for you. As per 9To5Google, the new update for the Spotify Car Thing is rolling out to device owners who have paired the device with their iPhone. If you have an Android device paired with your Spotify Car Thing, you’ll need to wait as the update won’t be available until a later date. The reason behind this move is not known at the moment.
