The Galaxy Watch 4 will debut new Google Maps & YouTube Music apps for Wear OS
As most of you know by now, Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic today. Those are the company’s new smartwatches which run with brand new Wear OS 3.0, even though they have a custom UI on them. Wear OS 3.0 itself won’t be coming to many currently available smartwatches, only a handful. Users didn’t react all that well to such news, but there you have it. The same situation is with brand new apps made for Wear OS 3.0, it seems. The new Google Maps app for Wear OS brings a major visual overhaul. The functionality won’t change all that much, as the turn-by-turn navigation will be available. The YouTube Music app, on the flip side, is basically a brand new release. It has been confirmed that this app will also debut on the Galaxy Watch 4 series. This app will mostly benefit premium users.

Why is that? Well, it will allow them to browse their library and download music for offline playback, to the watch itself. Google will also include the ‘Smart Downloads’ feature. That feature will allow your watch to automatically update your offline library while it’s charging. If you want to get your hands on Wear OS 3.0, chances are you’ll need to buy a new watch. Well, if you have the TicWatch 3 Pro or E3, you won’t have to. If you own any of Fossil’s or Skagen’s Wear OS watches, well… Wear OS 3.0 won’t be coming your way. Wear OS 3.0 does represent another major push from Google into the smartwatch world. This time around, it’s backed by Samsung, as the company basically ditched Tizen for Wear OS. It remains to be seen whether that will be enough to compete with Apple.
