Well Samsung listened. With the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3, these foldables are much more durable. In fact, it’s rather surprising how durable they are.  Samsung says that the protective film on the main screens are now 80% more durable. And much smoother to the touch. That also helps to make it more scratch resistant.  As far as the hinges go, Samsung is using Armor Aluminum here, which makes it about 10% more durable than their predecessors. Speaking of the hinge, it has been more streamlined. Making it thinner, but it still doesn’t fold either phone, completely flat. We’re getting there though.  The Cover Displays on both models do also have Gorilla Glass Victus. That is the strongest glass ever made, that Corning has ever made. And you’ll find it on most 2021 smartphones.

Both models are now IPX8 rated for water resistance

Perhaps surprisingly, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3 are both rated at IPX8 for water resistance.  What that means is that either phone can be submerged deeper than one meter. Though it’s still not a good idea to go swimming with your phone, but if you do drop it in the pool or the toilet (which is much worse), your phone is not ruined.  This just goes to show us that Samsung has really made some big leaps forward when it comes to foldables this year. While we don’t see a lot of changes on the outside, there are a ton of changes internally that make for a huge difference this year. And making the phones even cheaper, is a big part of making foldables mainstream.
