The streaming giant launched a similar feature called Fast Laughs earlier this year. It’s a collection of funny clips taken from its library. But unlike Fast Laughs, Kids Clips videos will take a horizontal form and cover the entire screen. Fast Laughs videos appear in a full-screen vertical format. The new feature will use a similar interface to TikTok or Instagram Reels though. The report notes that Netflix is trying to attract young viewers who might spend time watching TikToks, Instagram Reels, or Shorts on YouTube. But, thankfully, the company will limit the number of clips kids can watch at a time to 10 to 20. The likes of Instagram and TikTok have found themselves on the lawmakers’ hot seats recently over their disregard for children’s well-being. Netflix is seemingly avoiding going that route. Users can add a clip to their “list” to watch later. Kids Clips on Netflix will begin rolling out to iOS users in the US this week. The feature will also reach users in Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America and markets such as Canada, Australia, and Ireland soon. A global rollout will likely follow suit.
Netflix’s Kids Clips is a result of the widespread TikTok craze
The widespread popularity of short-form video-sharing app TikTok has made everyone launch similar products. Instagram added Reels, YouTube added Shorts, and the list goes on. All of these companies are trying to keep users on their respective platforms by offering identical features. Netflix doesn’t want to be left behind either. At the same time, these innovations will also expose users to more content on the platform. Following the launch of Fast Laughs earlier this year, the streaming giant is now preparing an identical Kids Clips feature. The new feature appears to be still in testing and will likely roll out publicly in the coming weeks. Users with iOS devices will pick it up first but Kids Clips will eventually arrive on Netflix for Android as well. Fast Laughs reached Android users last month.
