Back in September, Material You design elements were brought to Google Maps. However, at that time, it was visible to only a few users. Fast forward to now, more users are witnessing the Material You elements on the Google Maps app. Some love the new makeover, while some absolutely hate it. Whatever your preference is, the Google Maps Material You makeover is arriving for more users. The feature is now rolling out widely. If you weren’t in the first batch of users who received the Material You design change in Google Maps, there are some new elements that you will see with the new makeover. Notably, the navigation button is changed to squircle. There are chip-shaped highlights for other elements in the navigation bar. According to Android Police, back in September, users did not have both, but that is now changing with the latest update.
Dynamic theming hasn’t arrived just yet on the Google Maps app
Both UI elements are visible and available widely with the new update. There is a catch, though. Notably, the popular dynamic color theming hasn’t arrived on the Google Maps app. Apparently, the dynamic theming feature was also not available when Google pushed the Material You theme for Google Maps. It seems like Google is still figuring out what all elements should support dynamic themes on Google Maps. But that is simply us, guessing. Dynamic theming is an important design element introduced with Android 12. It basically picks the dominant color of your wallpaper and applies it across your theme. This changes the accent colors, the navigation toggle colors, icon colors (if supported), and more. Hopefully, Google is just another update away from adding dynamic theming on the Google Maps app. The new UI elements are arriving with the Google Maps app version v11.5.4. As noted by Android Police, there is no surety if you would see the new changes with this version. This has been the case with many Google updates. Still, you can go ahead and update the Google Maps app on your phone. You can navigate to Google Play Store to pick up the new update or you can always rely on trusted third-party download sources, such as APK Mirror. Overall, the Material You makeover is still incomplete on Google Maps with the absence of dynamic theming support.
