Do note that MIUI 14 launched in China, as did the two phones. So, we’ll get a separate announcement for the global version, but most of the changes will be the same. So, we’ll just go over the most important things in this article.
MIUI 14 is now official, and it brings less bloat, along with various other improvements
This update is more focused on optimizing things, than it is on revamping the experience. With MIUI 14, Xiaomi removed some bloat from the map. It now comes with only eight unremovable system apps. This also freed up space, as Xiaomi removed 1.5GB of space by removing unnecessary apps. The company also reduced memory consumption in MIUI 14, and it also introduced optimizations for third-party apps to make them run faster than ever before. Xiaomi says that MIUI 14 will run up to 60% better overall. The energy consumption of third-party apps improved by up to 22%.
You’ll be able to choose between different icons sizes, while new widgets are included
Users can now choose between four different icon sizes, and add some animated emojis to their home screens. We’re not sure if the latter change will make its way to the global version, though. Do note that MIUI 14 also ships with a bunch of new widgets, customizable folders, and various other customization-related changes that you’ll be able to discover.
The privacy aspect has been improved
Xiaomi also opted to improve the privacy aspect here. MIUI 14 relies on local computing entirely, says the company. It includes over 30 system scenarios, including image recognition, text extraction from photos, subtitles for video calls, and much more. Xiaomi did release a list of devices that will get MIUI 14 first, not including the Xiaomi 13 series, of course. That list is for the Chinese models, though, so we won’t get into it. Xiaomi will release a list of global devices separately.
The Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro ship with MIUI 14 out of the box
The first two global phones that will get the taste of MIUI 14 are, of course, the Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro. Those two phones will ship with MIUI 14, as do their Chinese counterparts. The Xiaomi 13 series will likely launch globally in early 2023, maybe even in January. Xiaomi is expected to release more information soon.
