The phone, or phablet, itself, had its share of issues. Some even carried over from the previous Surface Duo generation. At least on the software side, there is some good news. Notably, according to Windows Central, Microsoft is rolling out the latest June 2022 OTA update for the Surface Duo 2 device. The update is not just an incremental update but brings a bunch of new improvements and features to the device. Speaking of the Microsoft Surface Duo 2 June update, it arrives with a size of 736MB. It bumps the software version to 2022.418.98. The Glance Bar, which shows glanceable information such as date, time, and notifications, now shows notifications from 3rd party apps as well. It previously only showed SMS, voicemail, and Microsoft Teams alerts on the exposed side display of the device.
The Slim Pen 2 will now automatically pair up with the Surface Duo 2
The June 2022 update also brings the ability of the Slim Pen 2 to connect automatically with the Surface Duo 2. Moreover, the Slim Pen 2 will be able to receive a firmware update when paired with Bluetooth. This negates the need to use the Surface PC. You need to update the Slim Pen 2 to version 5.133.139 in order to take advantage of the ability to automatically pair it with the Microsoft Surface Duo 2. Other features of the new update include optimized charging for the device and haptic feedback, which is now available in the device’s camera application’s settings. Additionally, the Device Firmware Configuration Interface (DFCI) is now supported to control device usage. The changelog also mentions that the camera app gets usability improvements, which does not give any information on what it is. We believe that it improves the overall performance of the camera application on the device. Side by side, the original Microsoft Surface Duo has also picked up an update. It arrives with version 2022.418.56, but the changelog is pretty simple. It means device stability improvements. If you haven’t received the update, then you should head over to Settings. Hit the Software Update section and let the device scan for any new updates. If it detects one, let the device download the update and later install it to enjoy all the new features.
