Both the Microsoft Surface Duo & Duo 2 are getting improved security via new update
The Surface Duo is getting the update with a software version ‘2022.519.29′. The Duo 2, on the other hand, is getting the software version ‘2022.519.47’. The update weighs 51MB in the case of the Duo 2, and it should be about the same for the first-gen Surface, but we cannot confirm that as of now. As per usual, this update is rolling out to both devices over the air (OTA). Do note that the update may take a while to reach your phone, though. It’s a staged update, as it usually is when it comes to OTA updates. Both updates deliver a new Android security patch for August, though that’s not the only change mentioned in the changelogs. Both devices also have the ‘Improves device stability’ entry, while the Duo 2 also gets improved video quality during video calls.
Android 12L is expected to come as well, soon
There are no major changes here, nor extra features. It’s always nice to see a new security update roll out, though. We’re still waiting for Microsoft to roll out Android 12L to both devices, though. Your phone will let you know once the update is available, but you can also manually check, if you’re impatient. All you have to do is open your phone’s Settings, and navigate to ‘System’. There you’ll need to select ‘System Update’, and then ‘Check for update’. We’re not sure when will Android 12L arrive to either of the two devices, but Microsoft is expected to roll out that update. The company is also expected to announce the third-gen Surface Duo device this year. The Surface Duo 2 arrived back in September last year, so if the company plans to stick to that release cycle, the third-gen model should arrive next month, or October at the latest. We still didn’t see any leaks, though, so… it remains to be seen.
