According to Windows Latest, in a video posted on YouTube, the Insider Team showcased the Windows 11 preview build “23003.ni_moment_directdash_dev1.221018-160”, which is likely to be an Insider build of the upcoming “Moment 2” update. It should be noted that the consumers won’t be getting Build 23003. Instead, Microsoft will ship a cumulative update that will increase the build number from 22621 to 22623. This is because Moment 2 will not be an OS update, but an update to the existing version 22H2.
What is a “Moment” update?
‘Moment’ is Microsoft’s internal codename for the smaller feature updates to complement major updates like the Sun Valley 2 (22H2). Microsoft has committed to quarterly feature updates to Windows 11. These updates are like Microsoft’s ‘feature experience packs’ and will bring new features to Windows and enhance its usability. The ‘Moments 1’ update rolled out earlier this month. Bringing in new features like a native tabbed browsing interface for File Explorer. But also Suggested Actions, easier access to Task Manager, and the ability to pin more apps to the Taskbar than space allows.
Microsoft will roll out the ‘Moment 2’ update early next year
Microsoft is expected to roll out the Windows 11 22H2 ‘Moment 2’ update early next year. As rumoured, the update will bring the highly anticipated “Tablet-Optimized taskbar” feature. Thus helping users better interact with the interface by enlarging the Taskbar for tablets and touchscreen laptops. The Windows Insider team accidentally demoed this feature in a YouTube video. One of the confirmed features coming to Windows 11 with the Moment 2 update is the iCloud integration in the Windows 11 Photos app. As a result, users will now be able to sync photos from their iPhones to a PC through the app. Microsoft confirmed this at their Surface event, with a tentative release date of November. Therefore, we can assume that the new update is weeks away from debuting. The new “Tablet-Optimized taskbar” feature is already live in the Windows Insider channel for beta testers.
