According to the report, the Material You redesign with dynamic coloring for Google Assistant was spotted on a Pixel 3 XL running Android 12 Beta 5 with Google app version 12.37.19.29. The publication has also shared screenshots (attached below) showing the redesigned Assistant panel. However, the changes haven’t shown up on their Pixel 4 running the same Android 12 release and Google app version. This suggests that the rollout is still in its early stages. Perhaps Google is rolling out the feature incrementally, which is standard practice to ensure that bugs, if any, don’t affect a large number of devices. A wider rollout will follow once the feature is confirmed to be bug-free. A server-side update will likely trigger the changes but you might want to keep the Google app updated to the latest version to increase your chances.
Google Assistant picks up the Material You redesign with dynamic coloring
Material You is Google‘s name for the big UI overhaul it’s introducing to Android 12. It is the most significant UI change Android OS has seen since the Android 5.0 Lollipop release in 2014. The company is giving more emphasis on personalization with the latest release. Announced at Google I/O in May, the Material You redesign has rolled out to numerous Google products on Android 12 beta over the past few months. Google Photos, Google Drive, Google Duo, and Google Messages are to name a few. Google Assistant is now joining this ever-growing list as well. Dynamic theming is the best feature of Android 12’s Material You design language. Powered by Google’s “monet” theme engine, this feature enables your phone to adapt to your wallpaper. It extracts colors from the wallpaper and applies them system-wide. All UI elements, including those of individual apps that support Material You dynamic coloring, will look and feel more consistent across the device. Now, before you get too excited, be informed that dynamic coloring will not be available to non-Pixel phones with Android 12. There’s some hope that a subsequent minor version update, likely Android 12.1, will bring the feature to other Android devices. But for the time being, only Pixel users will have access to Android 12’s dynamic coloring. The next iteration of the Android OS will likely go official for Google’s Pixel lineup early next month. Devices from other OEMs should follow afterward.
