According to a 9to5Google report, the time picker UI features a more touch-friendly design following the latest update. The analog component now covers a larger portion of the screen and is also bigger in size, allowing for better spacing between the fields for hours and minutes. The top portion of this UI, which shows the time you have selected, features a “Select time” header. Everything is now larger with adequate spacing that makes for an improved visual and user experience. Google has also made this portion symmetric to the whole time picker UI. It is also now more obvious that the AM and PM buttons can be tapped. If you want to manually enter the time, things have changed drastically there as well. The manual entry UI gets the same makeover as the aforementioned top portion of the analog component. And rather than a large “Set time” header, you now have that tiny “Select time” header here as well. Users also no longer need to fiddle with the drop-down menu to select AM/PM for their desired time. Simply tapping on the AM/PM buttons does the job. If you’ve noticed the changes to the number pad in screenshots above, that’s because Gboard has also already picked up the Material You redesign. You can expect more Google apps to join the fun in the coming weeks.
This Material You redesign for time picker is appearing in more apps
According to the report, this material you redesign of the time picker UI has already hit many of Google’s Android apps. Assistant Reminders in Google Search now features the new design while this spacious and more touch-friendly improvement also appears in Google Keep with version 5.21.301.10. Some other Google apps have yet to pick up this change though. These include Google Calendar, Tasks, and Clock. But it might not take too long before we start seeing changes in these apps as well. You can also expect some third-party apps to jump on this bandwagon over the next few months.
