The Leica Leitz Phone 2 looks really interesting
Still, it’s an interesting device. Its design is based on the Sharp AQUOS R7 that was announced earlier this year. It comes with Leica’s proprietary software engine that is supposed to bring that “Leica look” to photos. This phone has a circular camera island on the back, with red ‘Leitz’ branding on the back. The front side of the phone looks quite interesting, as the display corners are rounded, but the corners of the frame are quite sharp. The device features a 6.6-inch WUXGA+ (2730 x 1260) Pro IGZO OLED display. This panel offers an adaptive refresh rate of up to 240Hz, it can go from 1 to 240Hz, actually. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC fuels the phone, while Leica included 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM here. You’ll also find 512GB of storage included (UFS 3.1), and even a microSD card slot. It takes microSD cards up to 1TB. Android 12 comes pre-installed on the phone, and an in-display fingerprint scanner is also included. The phone is IPX5/IPX8/IP6X certified for water and dust resistance. It supports 5G connectivity, and has a 5,000mAh battery with fast charging support (wired charging).
It has a custom 47.2-megapixel camera sensor with Leica Sumicron lens
Now, what’s interesting is the phone’s camera, of course. A 47.2-megapixel 1-inch main camera sensor with an f/1.9 aperture is used here. A secondary 1.9-megapixel ToF camera is also included on the back. Having said that, this sensor has been co-developed by Sharp and Leica, and it brings a seven-element Leica Sumicron lens with a 19mm focal length. A metal cap for the camera is also included. The device measures 161 x 77 x 9.3mm, and weighs 211 grams. The Leica Leitz Phone 2 comes in Leica White color, and it will become available in Japan from November 18 for 225,360 yen ($1,537). This phone probably won’t leave the borders of Japan, but we’ll see.
