The Huawei Mate 50 may include the SD898 SoC, but without a key feature
This information comes from China, by the way, and that’s not all that was revealed. CNBeta claims that the Huawei Mate 50 series will launch in Q1 2022. That is actually the same timeframe that was reported earlier, and that the Mate X3 is expected to launch in. The Mate 50 series is tipped to launch in March, while the Mate X3 is said to be coming in February. There’s still a chance Huawei will launch all those devices at the same time, though. Huawei was expected to announce the Mate 50 series this year, but the P50 series was postponed, so that moved the whole timeline for Huawei. The US ban probably has something to do with that, and the chip shortage as well. Now, regarding that “key feature” that we’ve mentioned. The feature in question is actually 5G connectivity. Huawei cannot utilize the Snapdragon 898 with 5G due to the US ban, so it may use those chips without 5G connectivity.

We still don’t know how many devices will Huawei announce, but we’re expecting at least two, the Mate 50 and Mate 50 Pro. The “Pro” model is expected to include an LTPO display, an AMOLED panel with QHD+ resolution, and a curved display. We’re still not sure about the Mate 50, but it could ship with a fullHD+ panel. Huawei will almost certainly utilize glass + metal build for both devices, and neither will come with Google Play Services. They will include Huawei’s very own services, along with the AppGallery app store.
