Which makes it a great service to download some titles from to watch while you’re traveling, or won’t have access to stable internet. So luckily, Disney will allow you to download titles to playback offline. And here’s how you can do it.
How to download movies & TV shows from Disney+
Downloading movies and TV shows from Disney+ is quite easy, actually. Open the Disney+ app on your phone or tablet. Now, navigate to the movie or show that you want to download. Below the “Play” button, you’ll see a number of options, including “Download”. Just tap on that to start downloading. It’ll take a few seconds to start downloading and should be complete within a few minutes – depending on your WiFi speed.
Now for a TV show, you will not see the Download option below the play button. Instead, it’ll be to the right of each episode. As you will need to download each episode, and you can’t download an entire season with one click – yet.
Then if you tap on the third icon at the bottom of the screen, which looks like an arrow going into the ground, you can see your downloads. As well as the progress of your current downloads.
And that’s it. That is how you can download movies & TV shows on the Disney+ app. This can be very useful if you are getting ready to travel, like jumping on a plane that will have spotty WiFi.
Adjust your download settings
You can also adjust your settings for downloads in the Disney+ app. Just head into the account tab on the right. Then tap on App Settings. Next, you’ll see a downloads section.
Here, you’ll be able to choose whether you want it to only download over WiFi. As well as the quality of your downloads. By default it will use Standard, which isn’t going to be high quality, but it will use up less storage. You can also choose Medium or High. Of course, High is going to use a lot more storage. Disney+ will show you how many hours you can download based on your available storage, for each option.
If you have a phone with a micro SD card, you can also change the download location, if not that section will be greyed out. There is also a button to delete all downloads, and free up some space. Finally, you can see your storage here, much like the Netflix app. So you can see how much you’ve used, how much the Disney+ app is using and then how much is free. So you can use your storage wisely.
Do downloads expire?
Technically, no. You just need to make sure your device connects to the internet at least once every 30 days, and you can keep those downloads on your phone or tablet for as long as you’d like.
How many devices can I download on?
You can download movies and TV shows on up to 10 devices. That’s pretty respectable for Disney+, and right on par with the competition too.
Is there a limit on how much content I can download?
Currently, there is no limit on how many movies and TV shows you download onto your devices. Just remember that there is a limit on how many devices you can download on. This might change in the future, as other services do have limits.
