Today, we’re going to show you how you can do that, as well as the different commands you can use with Alexa on your TV to control it.
How to set up TV control with Alexa
Open the Alexa app on your smartphone. Now tap on the More tab and then tap on Settings.
Then tap on TV & Video.
From there, you’re going to see a list of video service providers. If you see your TV maker or streaming device available, then you can select it.
Next, you’ll be asked to link or enable the provider. Depending on the provider, the steps will vary a bit. For most, you’ll just need to sign in and link your two accounts.
Next, you’ll need to choose a TV to link. And then you can add one or more Alexa speakers. This allows you to use voice commands without having to specify where things would be played. Obviously, you can also change this later on.
What TV and Streaming devices can Alexa control?
These are all of the brands that do support Alexa control. It’s important to note that some Android TV devices do support Alexa, but not all. For example, the Chromecast with Google TV does not, but NVIDIA SHIELD TV does.
What voice commands can I use?
Now that you have set up Alexa to control your TV, what kind of voice commands can you use? Well, there are quite a few different commands that you can use. Here some of those:
“Alexa, turn on/off the TV.”“Alexa, play/pause/stop the TV.”“Alexa, open HBO Max.”“Alexa, fast forward/rewind [TV name].”“Alexa, change the input to HDMI 3.”“Alexa, play The Big Bang Theory on [TV name].”“Alexa, search for Comedy movies on [TV name].”“Alexa, change the channel to 42.”“Alexa, launch Netflix on Roku”“Alexa, show me comedies on Fire TV”“Alexa, pause on SHIELD TV”
