Below, we’ll first talk about the desktop version of Facebook, the web client, and then move to the app. You’ll find step-by-step instructions here, along with some screenshots to help you follow along. The process didn’t really change much over the years, but there are some differences… so, let’s get started.
How to change your Facebook profile picture – desktop
The first thing you’ll need to do is open Facebook in your browser of choice, and log in. Once you do that, and you’re on the home page, you’ll see your current profile picture and name in the top-left corner. Click that.
Once your profile opens, you’ll see a larger profile picture on the left, along with a camera icon. Click that camera icon in the top-right corner of your profile picture.
The next menu is a pop-up one, and it’ll show you the ‘Update profile picture’ option. From there, you can either upload a new photo by clicking the ‘Upload Photo’ option. Or… you can simply choose from some of the pictures offered here, that are already updated on Facebook. There are several categories you can choose from. The pictures in this example are covered, for privacy reasons, but they’re there.
How to change your Facebook profile picture – mobile
If you’re using your Facebook app, the process is just as simple. Open the app, and while you’re on the home screen, you’ll see your current profile picture on the left side. Tap that.
In the next menu, you’ll see a larger representation of that profile picture, and a camera icon in the bottom-right corner, just like on the desktop. You need to select that, of course.
In the next menu, you’ll see the ‘Select profile picture’ option, which we’re looking for.
That option will throw you in the ‘Select Photo’ menu, Just like on desktop, you can either upload one of the images from your device (in this case your phone), or select one of the images that are already on Facebook. The layout is different here, though, of course.
